Piazzale degli Uffizi, 6, 50122 Florence
One of the most important museums in the world. Botticelli's Venus, Leonardo's Annunciation, Michelangelo's Tondo Doni — Renaissance masterpieces around every corner. Booking ahead is absolutely essential, especially in high season.
Ponte Vecchio, 50125 Florence
Italy's most famous and romantic bridge, lined with jewellers since the 16th century. Not to be missed at dawn or dusk, when the golden light reflects on the Arno river below.
Piazza della Signoria, 50122 Florence
Florence's seat of government since the late 13th century, with its Arnolfa Tower dominating Piazza della Signoria. The Hall of the Five Hundred and the Medici apartments are a journey through the history of power and art.
Piazza di Santa Croce, 16, 50122 Florence
The "church of Italian glories" houses the tombs of Michelangelo, Galileo and Machiavelli. The square in front of it is one of the most lively and beautiful in the whole city.
Palazzo Pitti & Boboli Gardens
Piazza de' Pitti, 1, 50125 Florence
The former Medici residence, now a major museum complex with the Palatine Gallery and the Silver Museum. The Boboli Gardens stretching behind it are a labyrinth of fountains, statues and tree-lined paths with sweeping views over Florence.
Bars & Cafés
Piazza della Repubblica, 6, 50123 Florence
